Truro PKJ is a martial arts club that focuses on self-protection.
Martial arts training falls into three main categories.
- Sport Combat Martial Arts: These are martial arts that train for competitions, and who's techniques are geared toward winning points within their specific sports guidelines and rules
- Fitness Martial Arts: These are martial arts that are primarily about sweating it out, and often contain a lot of non-training exercizes (sit-ups, push-ups, running, etc.) with some punches and kicks mixed in
- Self-Defense Martial Arts: These are martial arts that focus on teaching pupils how to protect themselves in real world situations
Each type of martial art has it's purpose. Beware of clubs that say they do everything.
Truro PKJ is designed specifically with emphasis on being a self-defense system. Practitioners learn a holistic system which includes such things as drills, escapes, strikes, locks, and throws.
Truro PKJ was born out of a need for practical defense techniques that can be learned through the practice of martial arts with a real-world focus. We teach small classes to ensure adequate instruction for each and every student and aim to keep classes fun, as well as productive. At Truro PKJ, we succeed when you succeed. We want pupils to be able to avoid conflict, and if conflict cannot be avoided, to defend themselves and others then remove themselves safely.
We teach no-nonsense, easy-to-learn techniques. Our classes involve practicing new techniques and improving learned techniques, repetition to build muscle memory, pad work, partner work, sparring, take-downs and more. We want our pupils' art to become second nature, so they never end up in a situation where they may freeze or fumble. We teach how to take control of situations and turn the tables on would-be attackers.
