As Summer Heat Fades, A Brown Belt Arises
Summer is flying by, and it's hard to believe we’re already in the final few weeks! Soon the sticky training heat will give way to cooler fall evenings (thank you blessed air conditioning, for getting us through the worst of it!).
Last night we had the honour of welcoming another brown belt into our senior ranks! A huge milestone for them and an electric moment for the whole club. One of the best parts of training in a small, close‑knit dojo is the powerful camaraderie that builds over time. Achievements aren’t just noticed; they’re celebrated. Support isn’t just offered; it’s acted on. And when challenges arise, everyone closes ranks without hesitation. No one ever has to flail alone; their friends and fellow karateka are right there beside them, pushing forward, lifting each other up, and standing strong together both in training and in life.
Congratulations again to our newest senior — your hard work shines, and your fellow karateka are cheering loud for you every step of the way.
Flights, Fights & Fresh Insight
A huge shout‑out goes to our assistant instructor and senior members for running smooth, high‑quality classes. Their leadership kept the dojo thriving, and their consistency ensured classes remained exceptional while our main instructor and a lucky few travelled to train with top practitioners from his home dojo.
The returning group brought back more than just stories, they returned with sharpened techniques, renewed inspiration, and a deeper connection to the lineage we’re part of. Opportunities like this deepen our roots, strengthen our technique, and bring fresh insight back to the dojo here at home.
Classes have been packed with good humour, strong effort, and the kind of steady work that turns small steps into big progress. Whether it’s sharpening fundamentals, exploring practical self‑defence, or pushing through sparring rounds, everyone is levelling up, and the energy in the dojo is inspiring. Keep up the great work guys!
A Historic Milestone for Our Club
We are proud to announce the awarding of our first black belt! A moment that marks both personal triumph and club history.
Congratulations to Gordon Delano, who has dedicated the past five years to rigorous marital arts training. His journey has been one of discipline, perseverance, and passion.
After several hours of testing across multiple sessions, Gordon has demonstrated not only technical skill but also the resilience and spirit that embody the true essence of martial arts.
This achievement is a testament to Gordon’s hard work and an inspiration to us all. He now joins the long line of black belts of our lineage; martial artists whose dedication and mastery have carried the art forward and made every step of progress possible. We couldn’t be prouder!
Clunk. Thud. Giggle?
They say time flies when you're having fun, and boy does time fly!
We bow in and stretch out. The air fills with the sound of limbs striking pads, there's laughter, more striking. Time to switch up. Now someone's being thrown. Laughter erupts from another pair. The evening slyly slips by.
Techniques are quietly becoming second nature, beyond the awareness of their practitioners. We bow out. There's friendly chit chat and the fighters depart as friends happily declaring, See you next...
Strikes & Deflections & Take-Downs, Oh my!
On nights the mats come out, something shifts. For some, it’s the pads. For others, the ‘beating sticks’. For me? It’s the mats.
We train for self-defence, and in doing so, we tap into karate’s roots—not just strikes or throws, but a full system of movement, intention, and adaptability.
Each move is precise. Each landing, controlled. There’s a quiet intensity to it. A rhythm. A trust. And yes, a whole lot of fun.
We move, we learn, we laugh. And sometimes, we fly—just for a moment—before we’re (gracefully, we hope) surrendered to the mat.
